After spending nearly a month in China, I feel as though I have barely just begun to explore some of the sights, sounds and tastes of this ethnically diverse and staggeringly biodiverse region. I am in the heart of Yunnan Province where I’ve settled for a stay at Baisha Holiday Resort in Lijiang which is owned by the folks who run Yunnan Exploration (www.yunnanexploration.com), Mysterious Tibet (www.mysterioustibet.com) and Y China Tours. (www.ychinatours.com).
I met Charlie Lee after stepping out of another small guest house here in Baisha Ancient Town. The guest house I’ve been staying in, is closing for renovations. We immediately struck up a conversation, and in his very friendly and open manner, he informed me that he runs the first hotel to have opened here. He invited me to come take a look.
I needed to move, and wanted to remain in Baisha, so we walked a few short blocks, down a quiet cobblestone street to Baisha Holiday Resort, where I was immediately struck by the aesthetics of the open courtyard, the rooftop solarium, lovely guest rooms, some which allow for a ‘mountain view’ of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. The first peaks of the Himalayas are now at your doorstep! https://yunnanexploration.com/tour_category/themes-tour/yunnan-hiking-tours/tiger-leaping-gorge-hiking-tours
Room rates vary seasonally, It’s rainy season now, so I’m here for under 20 USD per day. I just met an intrepid Italian bicyclist, Diego who is traveling throughout Asia, with over 16,000 kilometers pedaled thus far. It’s always an inspiration to meet people who push past their ‘comfort zone’ in order to experience the spicy variety of life. He is going to get some R&R, in the spacious bunk house, and it will barely cost him 6 USD!
I’m Looking forward sharing the journey with you with this blog. It’s my pleasure to share images and impressions along the way. I hope that others who may be considering traveling to this part of the world, might also experience the great sense of welcome you will feel upon your arrival in Yunnan. If you are planning on visiting Lijiang and the surrounding environs, Baisha Holiday Resort is the ideal spot for repose, a veritable garden of paradise, nestled amidst verdant land, at the foot of the Himalayas. Local fixtures such as Charlie Lee, a less stressful pace and the rich Naxi Indigenous culture, are waiting to greet you! https://www.ancient-origins.net/ancient-places-asia/last-hieroglyphic-language-earth-and-ancient-culture-fighting-survive-001264
