Lishan Yi Ethnic Township (里山彝族乡) is located southeast of Tonghai County, just 5 kilometers from the county seat. It borders Yangguang Town and Huani County to the east, Gaoda Township and Qujiang Town in Jianshui County to the south, Jiujie Town to the west, and connects to the urban area to the north. The township government is based in Lishan Community, and the total area of the township is about 100.01 square kilometers.
Cultural History
Lishan Yi Ethnic Township has a long history, with its administrative structure following the Qing Dynasty system during the Republican era. In 1940, it was part of Nanping Township. In 1961, it separated from Gaoda Commune to become Lishan Commune, and in 1987, it officially became Lishan Yi Ethnic Township. In December 2022, the township was recognized by the Yunnan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs as a “Green Beautiful Township.”
