MoSha Town (漠沙镇) is located in the southwestern part of Xinping County (新平县), Yuxi City (玉溪市), at the foot of the Ailao Mountains (哀牢山脉) in the middle section to the east, along the middle and upper reaches of the Red River (红河). It is bordered by Pingdian Township (平甸乡) to the northeast, Yangwu Town (扬武镇) to the southeast, Dong’e Town (东峨镇) of Yuanjiang County (元江县) to the south, Jianxing Township (建兴乡) and Pingzhang Township (平掌乡) to the southwest, and Jiasha Town (戛洒镇) to the northwest. The town covers a total area of 684 square kilometers.

During the Ming Dynasty, it was renamed Malong Talang Region Commandery and was directly under the jurisdiction of Yunnan Provincial Administration Commission. The town is also known for its historical significance as a key node on the ancient Tea Horse Road.
