Honghe Mengzi Airport
Honghe Mengzi Airport is a dual-use military and civil airport scheduled to be built in Mengzi City, capital of the Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture in China’s southwestern Yunnan province near the Vietnamese border. The airport is located in Daguoxi Village (大郭西村), Yuguopu Town (雨过铺). The construction area includes 6000 square meters of terminal, 5000 square meters of parking, civil aviation stations with 4 aircraft Spaces, and 200 square meters of freight stations. The airport runway will be 2,800 meters long and 50 meters wide, and a parallel taxiway 2,800 meters long will be constructed. It is 11.3 km away from Mengzi city and 23 km away from Gejiu city.
History
The airport was first proposed in 1999, but was repeatedly delayed due to complications with the military Mengzi Air Base. On October 9, 2012 the project finally gained approvals from both the State Council and the Central Military Commission of China, with the decision to build a dual-use airport to replace the existing air base. Construction was expected to begin by the end of 2012 with a total investment of 3 billion yuan. On February 23, 2013, the entrance ceremony of Honghe Mengzi airport construction was held in Daguoxi village, Caoba town, Mengzi city.
