Introduction to Erhai Big Boat Company
Erhai Lake (洱海), known as the “Pearl of the Plateau,” is a beautiful freshwater lake located at an altitude of approximately 1,972 meters. In ancient literature, it was referred to as “Yeyuzhe” (叶榆泽) and “Kunmichuan” (昆弥川). The lake stretches 41.5 kilometers from north to south and 3 to 9 kilometers from east to west, with a total circumference of 116 kilometers and an area of 251 square kilometers. The average depth is 10.5 meters, reaching a maximum depth of 20.5 meters. It is named “Erhai” due to its ear-like shape.
Erhai Lake is one of the “Four Sceneries of Dali” (大理“风花雪月”) and is famous for “Erhai Moon” (洱海月). To the west lies the majestic Cangshan Mountain (苍山), and to the east is the picturesque Yushan Mountain (玉案山), creating an incredibly beautiful environment, known as “Silver Cang, Jade Erhai” (银苍玉洱) and “Pearl of the Plateau” (高原明珠). The lines “Cangshan smiles to welcome guests, Erhai sails create a picturesque view” (苍山含笑迎宾客,洱海飞帆壮画图) depict the charming scenery of Erhai Lake.
Riding on a luxury cruise on Erhai Lake, you can immerse yourself in the stunning landscapes of Cangshan and Erhai while experiencing the unique customs and culture of the Bai ethnic group. The Dali Tourism Group’s Erhai Cruise Company operates several sightseeing routes on Erhai Lake, visiting attractions such as Jinsuo Island (金梭岛), Tianjing Pavilion (天镜阁), Xiaoputuo (小普陀), and Nanzhao Island (南诏风情岛). During the cruise, there are performances of the Bai ethnic “Three-Course Tea” (三道茶) song and dance, allowing you to appreciate the beauty of Dali while reflecting on life’s philosophies and experiencing the unique folk customs and artistic performances of the Bai people.
The Dali Tourism Group’s Erhai Cruise Company manages five large luxury cruise ships, including “Erhai No. 1” (洱海一号), “Erhai No. 2” (洱海二号), “Rhododendron” (杜鹃号), “Dayun” (大运号), and “Cangshan” (苍山号), each capable of carrying over 400 passengers. It also operates five fiberglass luxury yachts, “Jinhua 1-5” (金花1—5号), which accommodate 60 passengers each. “Erhai No. 1” and “Erhai No. 2,” built by the Dali Tourism Group in 2005 and 2008, respectively, are the largest inland lake passenger ships in China, boasting the highest passenger capacity, complete safety equipment, advanced technology, and various service offerings. “Erhai No. 1” is 69.8 meters long, 18 meters wide, with a total tonnage of 2,858 tons and a capacity of 1,000 people; “Erhai No. 2” is 68.8 meters long, 16.8 meters wide, with a total tonnage of 2,398 tons and a capacity of 800 people.
