- About Yuanyang
- Yuanyang is a county located in south-central Yunnan province, People’s Republic of China. It is renowned for its rice terraces, considered the world’s largest and most spectacular, crafted by the Hani people over a thousand years ago. The rice farmers have practiced ecology and land preservation for centuries, long before these concepts were widely accepted.
- Yuanyang Rice Terraces
- The rice terraces are a self-sustaining ecosystem. In winter to early spring, the entire field is irrigated with spring water from the forest above to rejuvenate and prepare for the next season. The Hani people have repeated this process for more than a thousand years. There is only one harvest in a year for the Yuanyang Rice Terraces; planting takes place from March to October/November every year.

- Start your day with an early morning drive to Doyishu Village, a scenic 30KM journey that will reward you with a breathtaking sunrise over the Duoyishu Rice Terrace Fields.
- As the sun rises above the eastern horizon, the terraced fields will come alive, unfolding like a series of rings cascading down the hillside towards the sky.
- From the top of the mountains to the bottom, the landscape stretches out in a kaleidoscope of color, bathed in sunshine, cloud, and mist. It’s a truly spectacular sight.

- Next, head to Qingkou Village, where generations of Hani people have called home.
- Explore their traditional way of life and visit the Bada Hani Rice Terraces, a testament to their ingenuity and perseverance.

- Sunset Serenade
- End your day with a stunning sunset at Longshuba Rice Terraces, located just 5KM from Xinjie Town. As the sun dips below the horizon, the rice terraces will be bathed in a warm golden light, casting a serene atmosphere over the landscape. It’s the perfect ending to an unforgettable day in this picturesque region.
Day 3 Yuanyang-Yuanjiang-Kunming

Enjoy the sunrise of Yuanyang Rice Terrace, take photos as you like. Visit the local market and villages nearby. After lunch enjoy your free time in Yuanyang. You can trek around the terraces.
Transfer to Yuanjiang Railway Station and take the speed train back to Kunming(C313 15:18-16:47).
After arriving in Kunming, finish the tour of Yuanyang Hani Rice Terraces.

It’s available to visit Yuanyang Rice Terraces all year round. If you want to catch the most beautiful terraces scenery, November to next April is the best time to visit Yuanyang.
- Although there is no distinctive difference of seasons, the daily temperature can be varied from 32 °C to -2.6 °C, so you’d better check the specific weather condition before you tour Yuanyang.
