Jiangcheng County Festivals and Events

By the end of 2012, there were 25 ethnic groups in Jiangcheng County, including 6 ethnic groups including the Yi, Han, Yi, Yao, Hani and Lahu nationalities. In the same time, the festivals and activities in Jiangcheng County are diverse.

1.Dai Water-Sprinkling Festival(傣族泼水节)

The Dai Water-Sprinkling Festival is a New Year's Day for the Dai, and the proverb is called "Jinbimai", which is held every year in the first month of the Dai calendar (mid-April of the Gregorian calendar).

2. Yi Torch Festival (彝族火把节)

It is a grandest event of Yi ethnic minority. Local Yi people will celebrate it on the 24th day of lunar June. They gather and collect torch together into an burning tower, then sing and dance around the torch tower.

3. Kuota Festival of Lahu (拉祜族扩塔节)

Kuota, means New Year in Lahu language, commonly known as “Lahu Year”. Lahu Year is divided into good year and lean year. The good year is from the first day to fourth day of the first month; the lean year is from the ninth day to eleventh day.

4. Spring Festival (春节)

The Spring festival is the greatest festival of the Chinese on Chinese lunar calendar. In different parts of China, people may celebrate the festival in different ways. The atmosphere of the New Year in Jiangcheng County is also very strong.
