Best Time to Visit Yuxi

Yuxi has spring-like seasons, moderate temperatures in summer and autumn. The pleasant climate is suitable for traveling, especially in May and June, the temple fair in Gushan of Yuxi and the Copper Pot Food Festival in Fuxian Lake are all very popular maong locals and tourists. Mid-June is the best time to enjoy the ripe mango in Yuxi.

Yuxi Dressing Tips

Winter and Spring in Yuxi is windy with less rain and it is drier. Lipstick and moisturizer are essential. The temperature reaches lowest point in January, and the average temperature is between 8℃ and 16℃. You need to wear a warm fleece jacket. You can wear down jackets if you are afraid of cold in winter. Yuxi has a large temperature difference between day and night , and there is often a temperature difference of more than ten degrees between day and night. Even in mild summer and autumn, it is best to bring a coat.

• March - June, September - November: People can dress some thin clothes and take some coats or jackets for different changes between morning and night.
• July - August: People should dress some cool clothes for it is so hot and someone could take some raincoats and Rash Guards.
• December - February: When it comes to Winter, people need to take some thick clothes to keep warm and take some scarves and hats to protect their head.

Note: If you want to go to the attractions, you should wear some alpine jackets, hiking boots. 

How to Get to/around Yuxi

Yuxi Transportation mainly rely on trains and buses, without airlines. It is only one hour's drive away from Kunming, and is very convenient to get to Yuxi from Kunming.  However, there is the general agency of China Airline Company in Yuxi. There you can buy air tickets, return air tickets and inquire about anything about air tickets. You can get to Kunming first by air, and then go to Yuxi by train or by bus. Train transportation in Yuxi is very convenient. Yuxi Railway Station provides trains to Kunming, Beijing, Zhenzhou, Hekou, Mengzi and Dali. People can take trains from Kunming to Yuxi. It’s the best choice for you to take high-speed rail to Yuxi which only takes 30 minutes. The Yuxi Central Bus Station offering long-distance buses to the prefetures and cities in Yunnan, as well as the regional counties in Yuxi.  Visitors can get around Yuxi by city bus, taxi, minibus, bike and by suburban buses.

What and Where to Eat in Yuxi

Sour and spicy are the favorite tastes of Yuxi people. Things to Do in Yuxi

Fulxian Lake Cruise

There are many rumors and legends about Fuxian Lake. For example, divers have found large-scale underwater buildings at the bottom of the lake, and many media at home and abroad have reported on the "underwater ancient city"; it is also said that divers have found a large number of bodies flowing with the water at the bottom of the lake, and people who take boats in Fuxian Lake have seen rare big fish, etc. No one has confirmed whether these rumors are true or false, but they have made Fuxian Lake mysterious and attracted numerous tourists. Just take a cruise tour on Fuxian Lake and it will feast your eyes with impressive lake scenery.

Yuxi Landscape Caught on No.2 Bus

No.2 bus in Yuxi city is the only bus to Hongta Hill, and it is also the bus that runs through the most prosperous part of the city. Sitting in the car, the passers-by in a hurry on the road, the scenery passing by on the street, the high-rise buildings and the busy shopping malls are windows to local life and customs of Yuxi.

You can relax in hot springs to relieve daytime fatigue. The most popular ones among locals are Yingyuetan Hot Spring and Xiangbi Hot Spring . 

Ethnic Culture Discovery

Besides the famous Dongjing Daoism Music, Huadu Dance and other folk culture. There is one unique folk opera in Yuxi you shouldn't miss, that is Nuo Opera (傩戏). Director Zhang Yimou's movie "Walking a Thousand Miles and Riding Alone" mentioned an ancient opera, Nuo Opera. Guansuo Opera (关索戏) is one of the ancient Nuo operas, which is unique to Xiaotun Village, Yangzong Town, Chengjiang County, Yuxi. The ancient Nuo Opera is called "living fossil of drama" and is a ceremony in the totem worship period of ancient times. Its purpose is to pray for the gods to rid ghosts of plague and protect the peace of life.

Taboos

There are some ethnic people living there, so please respect the custom of minorities even some of them doesn’t make any sense.

• Avoiding crossing the fireplace. The Yi ethnic minority regard fire as the most important thing in their lives.
• Do not eat dog, kill dog and beat dog. This is forbidden by the Mao ethnic minority.
