11th Yunnan ethnic games opens in Lincang

The 11th traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities of Yunnan Province opened in southwest Yunnan’s Lincang City on December 4.

Hosted by Yunnan Ethnic and Religious Affairs Committee and Yunnan Province Sports Bureau, the ethnic sport event takes place every four years. This year, the 11th traditional games is undertaken by Lincang Municipal People’s Government.

The games drew a total of 1,899 athletes to participate in 131 events across 14 sports, competing for medals till December 13. 

The 18 delegations taking part in the games represent all of Yunnan’s 16 prefectures and cities, including two delegations from Yunnan Normal University and Yunnan Minzu University. 

27 ethnic minorities will collectively appear in the traditional games, together with 196 Chinese Han athletes. 

The 12th traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities of Yunnan Province will be held in Lijiang, northwest Yunnan in 2022.
