Tea Production and Environment
In the shadow of prominent tea regions like Xiaocun and Nasa, Baihuashu Village’s tea is relatively unknown. However, this does not mean that Baihuashu Village does not produce tea or ancient tree tea. A ten-minute drive from the Jiaojiao area will bring you to Baihuashu Village, also known as Baihua Village. The name likely reflects the year-round blooming flowers and vibrant colors of the area.
Baihuashu Village is located in the Dongbanshan tea region, bordered by Beiyin Village to the west, Nasa Village to the south, Xiaocun to the east, and Dashifang Village to the west. The village sits at an altitude of approximately 1,800 meters, with an average annual temperature of 12°C, annual precipitation of 1,000 mm, and abundant sunlight.
Tea Forest Overview
Baihuashu Village has 70 households primarily engaged in tea cultivation. Despite the current popularity of the vine tea variety, Baihuashu’s ancient vine tea, which is ecologically well-preserved, has increasingly gained favor among tea enthusiasts due to its long history and rich flavor. Compared to other more developed villages, Baihuashu maintains a pristine environment with no heavy industry or factories, leading to high air quality. The river water is clear and sweet, drinkable directly, and arguably tastier than mineral water in large cities. The local ecological environment contributes to the excellent quality of the tea produced.
The village retains traditional土基砖瓦 (earthen and brick-tile) houses, with concrete structures considered relatively affluent. Baihuashu Village still has ancient vine tea gardens from the Qing Dynasty, although the exact area is not specified.
Tea Characteristics
The ancient tea trees in Baihuashu Village grow in steep slopes, which allows them to greet the sunrise daily. This exposure gives the tea its robust and invigorating qualities. The tea is characterized by a strong, refreshing flavor with a complex and rich texture. It has a bold, slightly bitter taste with a light astringency, complemented by a prominent aroma. The tea’s flavor is elegant and dynamic, offering a direct and impactful taste experience.
