Dali Ancient Town Festivals and Events
As the prominent nationality inhabited in Dali region, Bai ethnic minority created brilliant culture and customs, among which the unique traditional festivals of Bai people enjoy good fame and attract tourists home and abroad to visit.
Flower Festival (Huazhaojie)
Flower Festival is the birthday of commemorating flowers. It is usually held on February 2, February 12 or February 15 of the lunar calendar.
Dongyuegong Temple Fair
He is a common folk temple fair in the country, with complex religious connotations, which held on March 28 of the lunar calendar.
Visiting Three Spirits
Each year, on the 23rd day of the fourth lunar month, the people don festival clothes, carry willow branches, rattle sticks in their hands, blow whistles from tree leaves, pluck three-stringed instruments and beat octagonal drums as they proceed to the three temples.
March Street Festival (Sanyuejie)
The March Street Festival is one of the most magnificent festivals of the Bai Ethnic Group in Dali, Yunnan. It falls in mid-“March” (the third month) on Chinese lunar calendar (often corresponding largely to April on the Gregorian calendar).
Bai Torch Festival
Different from the Yi people, the Bai ethnic Torch Festival takes place one day later, i.e. on 24 lunar June. It is held to commemorate the fiery foundation of the Nanzhao kingdom. On that day, local people will dress up, ladies will be painted red nails to celebrate the big day for blessing peace and warding off illness.
