The Ethnic Culture of Honghe Hani Rice Terrace is diverse and colorful. It is a place where multi-ethnic groups inhabit. Different ethnic groups create different culture.
1. Ethnic Groups
There are more than 20 ethnic minority groups living in the area of Honghe Hani Rice Terrace, such as Hani, Yi, Han, Dai, Miao, Yao, Zhuang, Lahu, Bulang and so on. Hani people make up a large part. In Yuanyang, minority people take up 88.62% of total population and Hani people are 53.92% of the total population. In Honghe County, ethnic minority is 94% of its total population, Hani people accounts for 75%. In Jinping County, minority population is 87.4% of registered population. And in Lvchun, minority population is 98.7% of registered population, Hani people make up 87.4% of total population.
2. Ethnic Festivals
There are many ethnic minority groups inhabiting in Honghe Hani Rice Terraces. Main ethnic festivals include YangAna festival, Kuzhazha festival and Kaiyanmen festival of Hani People, the torch festival and Axi Tiaoyue festival of Yi people, Panwang festival of Yao people, water-splashing festival of Dai people, Huashan festival of Miao people and so on. Besides, in four counties, Yuanyang, Honghe County, Jinping and Lvchun, they own their unique local ethnic festivals.
