Jingmai Festivals and Events
In Jingmai, there are many ethnic groups, including Dai and Bulang. Of course, the festivals and activities are diverse.
1. Hounan Festival
Hounan Festival, it is also known as the “Sangkan Festival”, “Songkan Festival”, which is the grand festival of Bulang people. It is held on the 7th day after the Qingming Festival in March, that is, April 13th to 15th of the solar calendar. The main activity of the festival is to splash water each other to welcome the sun. Therefore, people call it is a festival to welcome the sun. Now, the content of the Songkan Festival has changed a lot. In addition to the traditional activities in the past, the performance and sports competitions of the entertainment programs have been added, which is more popular.
2. Coming-of-age Festival
Young people of the Bulang ethnic group will form a social group and hold a coming-of-age ceremony after the age of fourteen. At night, the young men and women who reached the age of 14 are invited to the fire pit where young people have a party. The girls use the branches called “Kaoagai” to burn, then use the black smoke to help the young people dye their teeth. The young people who dye their teeth can be regarded as adults, and then they can have the right to love and marry.
3. Guanmen Festival
The Guanmen Festival is a common festival of the Dai people, the Bulang people, the Deang people, the Wa people and other minorities who have a faith in Buddhism. The time is on the 15th of the Dai calendar ( June of the lunar calender). On this day, the family members routinely send a flower, a pair of wax strips to the family leaders, and sacrifice the "Taigagun", and run for the family leaders to wash their hands and wash their feet to express blessings.
4. Dai Water-Sprinkling Festival
The Dai Water-Sprinkling Festival is a New Year's Day for the Dai, and the proverb is called "Jinbimai", which is held every year in the first month of the Dai calendar (mid-April of the Gregorian calendar).
