Lancang County Festivals and Events

In Lancang County, there are many ethnic groups, including, Hani, Lahu, Wa and Yi. Of course, the festivals and activities are diverse.

1. Hulu Festival(葫芦节)

The Hulu Festival is a grand festival of the Lahu people. On the 15th October of the lunar calendar every year, the Lahu people dress in festive costumes, singing and dancing, with their own wine and glutinous rice dumplings, killing pigs and slaughtering chickens, concentrate in the villages.

2. Kuota Festival of Lahu (拉祜族扩塔节)

Kuota, means New Year in Lahu language, commonly known as “Lahu Year”. Lahu Year is divided into good year and lean year. The good year is from the first day to fourth day of the first month; the lean year is from the ninth day to eleventh day.

3. Docynia Festival of Nuozhadu Town in Lancang County, Puer

On December 3 of each year, it is the Docynia Festival of Nuozhadu Town in Lancang County. Because the taste of Docynia is sour and sweet, this festival is also called the “most sour festival” in the world. On this day, the peasant people in the many places will bring a variety of Docynia products to the town to celebrate the festival.

4 .Dai Water-Sprinkling Festival(傣族泼水节)

The Dai Water-Sprinkling Festival is a New Year's Day for the Dai, and the proverb is called "Jinbimai", which is held every year in the first month of the Dai calendar (mid-April of the Gregorian calendar).

5. Yi Torch Festival (彝族火把节)

It is a grandest event of Yi ethnic minority. Local Yi people will celebrate it on the 24th day of lunar June. They gather and collect torch together into an burning tower, then sing and dance around the torch tower.
