Festivals of Songming County：

Dragon Boat Festival

The Dragon Boat Festival， also called the Duanwu Festival， is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month according to the Chinese calendar. This festival is to commemorate the death of QU Yuan， an upright and honest poet and statesman who is said to have committed suicide by drowning himself in a river.

Torch Festival

It is a grandest event of Yi ethnic minority, local Yi people will celebrate it on the 24th day of lunar June in Shilin Country. They gather and collected torch together into an burning tower, then sing and dance around the torch tower.

Folk Song Festival

"Folk Song Festival" will be held in Haichao Temple of Niulanjiang Town on the 15th and 16th of the first month of each year to fully demonstrate the folk customs and cultural charm of the original ecology. With the development of the "Folk Song Festival" activities over the years, the level of the contestant singer continues to improve, the activity is more professional, more scale.

A Festive Latern Festival Activity(龙腾狮跃闹元宵)

Every year on the 16th of the first month, the “Yunlin Cup” Dragon and Lion Competition is held in the Temple of Dharma, hoping to bring a festive atmosphere to the public at the beginning of the year. After 2010, it was renamed the Dragon Lion Race, which was held in Lanmao Square, attracting the attention of more spectators and highlighting the lively atmosphere and festive joy.

March Bibcock Festival(三月龙头节)

January 13 to 17 every year, March Bibcock Festiva is held the Yang Lin land main mountain contiguous ceremony in Xiaohedi Village of Yanglin Community.
