Zhaotong City (昭通市) is situated in the northeastern part of Yunnan Province, at the convergence of Yunnan, Guizhou, and Sichuan provinces, in the heart of the Wumeng Mountains. The city is located along the lower reaches of the Jinsha River, serving as a transition zone between the Sichuan Basin and the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau.
