Region Map of Deqin County in Diqing
Deqen County (德钦县) is situated in the northwestern part of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture (迪庆藏族自治州), Yunnan Province (云南省). It lies within the Hengduan Mountain Range (横断山脉) in northwestern Yunnan, at the southern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (青藏高原), where the borders of Yunnan, Sichuan (四川), and Tibet (西藏) converge.
The county spans longitude 98°3’56″E to 99°32’20″E and latitude 27°33’44″N to 29°15’2″N. It shares boundaries with:
- Southwest: Weixi Lisu Autonomous County (维西傈僳族自治县) and Gongshan Derung and Nu Autonomous County (贡山独龙族怒族自治县) in Nujiang Prefecture (怒江州).
- Northwest: Markam County (芒康县) and Zogang County (左贡县) in Chamdo City (昌都市), as well as Zayü County (察隅县) in Nyingchi City (林芝市), Tibet Autonomous Region (西藏自治区).
- Southeast: Batang County (巴塘县) and Derong County (得荣县) in Sichuan, and Shangri-La City (香格里拉市) in Yunnan, across the Jinsha River (金沙江).
The total area of Deqen County (德钦县) is 8,364 square kilometers.
