Shangri-La Ski Resort, Diqing

Presently, Shangri-La Ski Resort (香格里拉滑雪场) is a mountain field ski resort with the lowest latitude, the longest winter, most suitable temperature, and best natural vegetation and geographic condition in the Northern Hemisphere. Covering an area of 40 km², it is equipped with a Ski Rental Shop and Snow Playing Hall. As a paradise for tourists to ski, Shangri-La Ski Resort will also allow tourists to experience the strong Tibetan culture and customs.

Location and Planning

Shangri-La Ski Resort is located 20 kilometers to the northwest of Shangri-La County in Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, in the village of Hala, Nixi Township (尼西乡哈拉村). The total planning area of the ski resort is approximately 40 km². The overall plan was completed by a South Korean company with rich experience in ski resort planning and design. The construction of the ski resort is divided into four phases. Upon completion, it will become the largest-scale, most fully-equipped ski resort in China, combining natural and artificial snowmaking, with the lowest latitude and the most beautiful natural environment.

Facilities and Snow Runs

The ski resort has a total snow run area of 1.18 million square meters, featuring 12 ski runs for beginners, intermediates, and experts, as well as a toboggan field and ten 4-8 person aerial tramways. The first phase of the construction project has been basically completed, with a snow run area of 22.7 hectares. The ski equipment hall, which features a strong Tibetan style, covers an area of 6,000 square meters.

Public Transportation

  • Tourist Bus: Departing from Shangri-La County town, you can take a local tourist bus to the ski resort. The bus usually departs at 8 a.m., with a journey time of about 2 hours and a ticket price of 35 yuan.

Self-Driving

  • Route: Starting from Shangri-La County town, drive along the National Highway 214 to the northwest, with a total distance of about 18 kilometers and a driving time of about 20 minutes.

Private Car Hire

  • Recommendation: Due to the limited public transportation within Diqing Prefecture, it is recommended that tourists choose to hire a private car or join a group tour to the ski resort. The cost of a private car hire is around 200 yuan in the off-season.

  • Flight: You can take a direct flight to Shangri-La Airport from cities such as Kunming, Chengdu, and Chongqing.
  • Bullet Train: Departing from Lijiang, you can take a bullet train to Shangri-La.
