Suijiang County Culture

Suijiang county has a long history of more than 2000 years, after the development of 2000 years, Suijiang people has formed their own culture-a combination of Bashu culture(巴蜀文化) and local custom. Some highlights of Suijiang culture are list as below:

Dragon Lantern Dance(龙灯舞)

Dragon lantern dance is also known as dragon-lantern show. It popularizes in Mid-city town and towns along the Jinsha river. The dance is only hold in Lantern Festival and the very moment which was droughty in the year. According to the forms, dragon can be classified into four types: fiery dragon, green dragon , colorful dragon and grass-made dragon. It is said that the grass-made dragon was in charge of water and rain, except for the droughty situation, grass-made dragon was not allowed to be danced. In addition, no matter in what occasion it came across another three dragons, they had to give way to it.

Lion Dance(狮子舞)

Lion dance is also called lion-lantern dance. It has popularized in Yunnan, Sichuan and Guizhou province in Qing dynasty. In suijiang county ,there was always lion dances during every solar term, at the same time, once someone was in such occasion as new born, death, illness, disaster or building a new house, he need a lion dance performance. During the process of its’ development, Suijiang lion dance has formed its’ own characteristic and style.

Jinjiang Haozi(金江号子)

Jinjiang Haozi is a simple labor chant when the boat sailing on the Jinsha river, the river basin is limited in the section between New-city townof Sichuan province to Chongqing city. Because of the fast-flowing river,  the leader displays the worker’s chant freely and frequently, the worker’s chant melody is simple, the potential is mad and powerful. Jinjiang Haozi is now an important item of Suijiang culture heritage.
