Location and Environment

Wujiacun Village (五家村) is situated in the mountainous region of the Gongnong Village Committee (公弄村委会) in Mengku Town (勐库镇), Shuangjiang Lahu, Wa, Blang, and Dai Autonomous County (双江拉祜族佤族布朗族傣族自治县), Lincang City, Yunnan Province. The village is located 3 km north of Gongnong Village Committee and 15 km from Mengku Town. It sits at an altitude of 1,780 meters, with an annual average temperature of 20°C and annual precipitation of 1,750 mm, which supports the cultivation of tea, walnuts, and other crops.

Agriculture and Economy

Wujiacun Village has 433 mu (approximately 28.9 hectares) of cultivated land. The primary industry in the village is tea production, which is predominantly sold outside the province. In 2006, the total sales income from the tea industry was RMB 16,000, accounting for 3.9% of the total rural economic income. The village’s total economic income for 2006 was RMB 407,200, with a per capita net income of RMB 92,000. The village remains relatively underdeveloped, with tea being the main source of income for local farmers.

Tofu Village (豆腐寨) is a lower-altitude area in the Gongnong region, near Wujiacun Village and Sanjiacun Village (三家村). In contrast, Wujiacun Village is located at a higher elevation of around 1,800 meters. Sanjiacun Village, situated 1 km from Wujiacun Village, is renowned for its tea cultivation at an altitude of 2,000 meters. From Sanjiacun Village, one can enjoy views of both the western mountains and the Mengku Dam’s base. Tofu Village, Wujiacun Village, and Sanjiacun Village are interconnected by extensive tea gardens.

Village Details

A 30-minute walk will take you to Wujiacun Village, which is primarily inhabited by Han people. The village is at an altitude of approximately 1,800 meters, making it relatively high in the Western mountainous region. Originally, Wujiacun Village had only five residents. The dry land in the area is mainly used for planting tea trees, with 20-30 acres of tea gardens established during the Republic of China era.

Tea Characteristics

The tea from Wujiacun Village features a moderate flavor that is neither too strong nor too light. Standard dry semi-finished tea is well-regarded for its bright quality, making it suitable for creating Qizi Bingcha (七子饼茶), also known as “seven sons cake tea.” This round, flat cake is believed to bring blessings and happiness, symbolizing prosperity and good fortune.
