Xianrendong Cave in Huaping County, Lijiang

Chinese Name: 华坪仙人洞
English Name: Xianrendong Cave (Fairy Cave) in Huaping County, Lijiang

Xianren Cave is located 2 kilometers southwest of the center of Huaping County in Lijiang, Yunnan Province. It is a natural stone cave situated on a cliff, said to be named after the legends of immortals residing there. Ancient trees stand lushly in front of the cave, with vibrant blooming flowers, and a stream flows at the bottom of the ravine. A long corridor extends in front of the entrance, creating a beautiful and tranquil environment.

Originally, there was a hall with two couplets hanging on the door. One was written by Wang Luhe, the magistrate of Huaping County in the sixth year of the Republic of China:
“Occasionally coming to the distant wall amidst the dust and noise, I ask of the cave deep in the mountains, wondering if there were recluses here back then;
Sitting for a long time, do not mind the seclusion, wait until the wine is plentiful and the tea is finished, and temporarily be a god for half a day.”Xianrendong Cave in Huaping County, Lijiang

The other couplet was written by Zhou Chuande, the magistrate of Huaping County in the eighth year of the Republic of China (originally from Feng County, Hunan):
“There truly are immortals in the cave; I ask where are Emperor Wu of Han and Emperor Qin? Just as summer arrives, I come again, bringing a chicken and a jug of wine, never tired of returning.”

On the left wall of the hall, there are two five-character regulated poems carved in stone, written by Zhou Chuande, reflecting the scenery of Xianren Cave and some social conditions in Huaping at that time. Inside the cave, there is water, a cool breeze, and a refreshing atmosphere, with various limestone formations resembling bamboo shoots and flowers, each with unique shapes, pure white like jade. After entering the cave for 20 meters, the space suddenly opens up, creating a dance floor illuminated by colorful lights, resembling a fairyland, enticing visitors to linger. The cave is nestled between mountains and water, equipped with pavilions and terraces, a pool with a fountain, stone tables, and stone chairs. It is not far from the county town, making it a great place for people to enjoy nature and relax.Xianrendong Cave in Huaping County, Lijiang-04
