Daying Town in Fumin County, Kunming

Geographic Location

Daying Town is located in the northwest suburbs of Kunming, Yunnan Province, 21 kilometers away from Kunming and 2.5 kilometers from the county town of Fumin. It is bordered by Wuhua District and Sandan Township to the east, separated from Yongding Town by the Tantang River to the southwest, and adjacent to Chijiu Township to the north.

Historical Background

Daying Town has a long history, dating back to the establishment of Fumin County in the Yuan Dynasty (1275). The name “Fumin” was derived from the local area’s relatively prosperous conditions. In 1953, Daying was established as a township, and over the years, it underwent multiple administrative adjustments. In 1984, it was upgraded to Daying District, and in 1988, it became Daying Town. In 2009, Daying Town was merged into Yongding Town, and in 2017, it was separated from Yongding Street to form Daying Street.

Daying Town enjoys favorable climate conditions, with an average annual temperature of 15.8°C and an average annual rainfall of 846.5 millimeters. The area is rich in natural resources, including underground mineral springs and mineral deposits such as titanium, silicon, limestone, and sulfur.

Economic Development

Daying Town is a key industrial area in Fumin County, focusing on industrial development. It hosts several industrial parks, including Daying Hardware and Building Materials Industrial Park, Dongyuan Food Processing Park, and Mai Long Qing Chemical Park. The town also emphasizes agricultural development, growing specialty fruits like chestnuts, grapes, and walnuts, as well as economic crops like tobacco and flowers.

Tourism Resources

Daying Town is rich in tourism resources, featuring Ming and Qing Dynasty architecture such as the Wanshou Temple in Shuke, the Ying Shui Temple in Sancun, and the Yellow Bridge in Shaguo Village. Additionally, there are leisure resorts like Mingxi Garden and Longteng Garden, as well as the Mingfu Mountain Celebration Temple and over 20 farmhouses. The town also includes Kunming’s largest Miao ethnic village, Xiaoshuijing Village.

Administrative Division

Daying Town covers an area of 154 square kilometers and administers 11 village committees, 62 natural villages, and 93 village groups. As of 2006, the town had a total population of 22,809, including 20,285 agricultural residents and 1,721 ethnic minorities.
