Luquan Yi Miao Autonomous County is high in the northeast, low in the southwest, and slowly descending from the northeast to the southwest. The main peak of Wumenxue Mountain in Xiongshi is the highest point at 4247 meters above sea level, while the Xiaohekou at the confluence of Pudu River and Jinsha River is the lowest point, with an elevation of 746 meters and a relative height difference of 3501 meters.

Luquan County is a subtropical monsoon climate area with obvious stereoscopic climate characteristics. Frost-free period has 234 days, the average annual precipitation are 966.4 mm. There are 28 villages in Jinsha River and Pudu River Valley, which are the main producing areas of tropical grain crops and cash crops in Luquan, and 28 villages in the east, north and west of the county, which are the main areas for the development of animal husbandry.

From 1998 to 2000, the national folk artists in Luquan County were surveyed and declared, and 12 outstanding artisans were selected to report to them step by step. Two of them were named as senior artists (only 13 people in the province), and three of them won the second batch of folk artists titles.

In 2011, Luquan County completed the (GDP) 3.86853 billion yuan. The added value of primary industry is 1.25943 billion yuan, that of secondary industry is 1.06289 billion yuan, and that of tertiary industry is 154.62 million yuan. The third industrial structure was adjusted to 32.6: 27.5: 39.9 from 33.2: 26.5: 40.3 last year. The first, second and third industries pulled the GDP growth by 3.2or 4.8,5.5 percentage points respectively, and the contribution rate to the GDP growth was 23.40.57% and 40.9g%, respectively.
