Menglun Town Festivals and Events
Menglun is one of the towns in Xishuangbanna where many ethnic minorities live together. These ethnic minorities has created splendid ethnic culture and festivals. The main festivals in Menglun are The Water Splashing Festival, “Gatangpa” Festival, Yekuzha Festival, etc. Besides, the folk customs and activities are very colorful in Menglun.
1.The Water Splashing Festival
In Xishuangbanna, the Water Sprinkle Festival, is an important festivity. This is the day when the Dai-minority celebrate New Year. It is the Dai people's ritual of bestowing blessings on others.
2. “Gatangpa” Festival嘎汤帕节
“Gatangpa” Festival is held during lunar January 1st to January 4th. It’s a festival of Hani who commemorate the festival by making tsampas, holding memorial ceremony for God and preparing a feast.
3. Yekuzha Festival耶苦扎节
The Hani people celebrate Yekuzha festival to worship the hero who killed the insects for protecting the corps. It's the second largest festival of Hani people second to Gatangpa Festival. It falls on June and lasts for 3-5 days.
4. Xishuangbanna Birding Festival
As birding becomes more popular in China, birding festivals are springing up all over this vast country. This festival is celebrated in the Tropical Botanical Gardens.
Besides, folk songs and dances are an important part of social life of all the ethnic people in Menglun town.
