Fumin County was built in Yuan Dynasty (1275), and it was part of Zhongqing Road, and in Ming Dynasty(1382) it was under jurisdiction of Yunnan Province. It was directly under the Yunnan Province during the Republic of China. Later, in 1950, under the jurisdiction of the Wuding County, after in 1953 it was transferred to the Chuxiong with the Wuding County. At last it was placed under the jurisdiction of Kunming in 1958.
