Climate of Fuxian Lake

The main sources of water supply for Fuxian Lake are rainfall and underground water. The average annual rainfall is 951.4 millimeters. The variation in surface water temperature in the lake area is as follows: the highest average monthly water temperature occurs in August, while the lowest average monthly water temperature occurs in February, with an average annual water temperature of 17.3℃. According to data from the Chengjiang Hydrological Station’s Haikou measuring point from 1979 to 1983, the maximum water temperature was 25℃, the minimum was 10℃, and the annual average was 19.2℃, with winter temperatures ranging from 0 to 15 degrees.

Due to the limited and scattered tributaries around the lake, there is very little terrestrial organic matter and few suspended particles, classifying it as an oligotrophic lake. In addition, a large amount of underground spring water flows into and around the lake, resulting in clear and pure lake water with excellent quality. The pH value is 8.36, indicating a slightly alkaline nature, and the lake water’s salinity is 99.5%, making it one of the lakes with the best water quality among inland freshwater lakes in China. The deep water area of the lake is turquoise, with an average water transparency of 8 meters, reaching a maximum of 12.5 meters, which is the highest in Yunnan Province.”
