Attractions

Shiqiu Pavilion (石虬亭)

Shiqiu Pavilion, originally named “Wanli Pavilion” (万里亭), was built during the Ming Dynasty (明代) in the second year of the Wanli era (公元1574). The pavilion has a unique four-cornered, double-eaved structure, supported by 16 main pillars, standing 6.2 meters tall and 5.6 meters wide. After being destroyed in a war, it was reconstructed during the Qing Dynasty (清朝) in the 34th year of the Kangxi era (康熙三十四年). The addition of a stone dragon in front led to its renaming to “Shiqiu Pavilion.” The pavilion’s setting is enhanced by limestone formations resembling coiled dragons, enriching its legendary allure.

Local folklore speaks of a picturesque land where a female dragon from Guizhou (贵州) transformed into a breathtaking woman and a male dragon from Yunnan (云南) became a charming young man. Their love story unfolded in this enchanting setting, where they fell in love but were torn between their homelands. They ultimately turned into stone dragons, eternally embracing while facing their respective native lands, symbolizing their unyielding connection to their roots.
