Kui Shouxing is a representative inheritor of the Chahua Festival (插花节) of the Yi ethnic group in Da Yao County, Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture. (楚雄州大姚县金碧镇插花节项目代表性传承人 – 奎寿兴)

The Chahua Festival is an important traditional festival celebrated annually by the Yi ethnic group in Da Yao County, Chuxiong Prefecture. It serves as a significant platform for promoting and inheriting the excellent traditional culture of the Yi ethnic group, gaining recognition both domestically and internationally.

Kui Shouxing is a key organizer of the traditional Chahua Festival in Da Yao County. Since the age of 12, he has been learning various customs and activities of the Chahua Festival from his grandfather and father. He also studied under several local elderly artists, specializing in playing folk instruments such as the hulusi and suona.

Over the years, Kui Shouxing has passed on over 70 traditional tunes for the suona and the etiquette of the Chahua Festival to more than ten local Yi teenagers, including Puguoqing, Wan Rongming, Pu Wencai, and Kui Shouzhong. He is well-versed in the local etiquette of the Chahua Festival and has led the Chahua Festival suona team to participate in various important ethnic cultural and artistic activities at the provincial, prefectural, and county levels multiple times. His contributions to the preservation and inheritance of the excellent traditional culture of the Yi ethnic group in Da Yao County have earned him high respect among the local Yi people.
