Lushui City Yangpo Paragliding Flight Camp in Nujiang

Overview

The Yangpo Paragliding Flight Camp (阳坡滑翔伞基地) is located in Pailuba Village (排路坝村), Liuku Street (六库街道), Lushui City (泸水市), Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture (怒江傈僳族自治州), and has become a popular destination for both local residents and tourists seeking to experience outdoor sports. Visitors flock to the camp to try paragliding, taking in the breathtaking views of the majestic Nujiang Grand Canyon (怒江大峡谷) from above while enjoying the thrill and excitement of low-altitude flight.

Pre-Flight Preparations

When reporters arrived at the base, the instructors were busy preparing the site, checking equipment, confirming weather conditions, and conducting test flights. According to Cai Liang (蔡亮), a paragliding instructor with Yunnan Lefei Sports Development Co., Ltd. (云南乐飞体育发展有限公司), wind speeds between 2 to 6 meters per second are the safest for paragliding. From numerous tests, it is evident that the flying conditions at Yangpo Paragliding Flight Camp are excellent.

Best Flying Conditions

“The biggest advantage of Yangpo Paragliding Flight Camp is that it stays warm in winter, and the wind direction is stable. During the flight, you can enjoy the stunning views of the towering mountains, green rivers, and beautiful cityscape of the Nujiang Grand Canyon,” said Cai Liang. The best time for paragliding at the camp is from 10 AM to 5 PM, and the activity is available to people between the ages of 3 and 60. From December 28, 2024, to January 2, 2025, 51 people have already experienced paragliding flights. To ensure safety, each flight is accompanied by an instructor, and ground staff assist with landing instructions. Each flight lasts about 18 minutes.

Development and Future Plans

The Yangpo Paragliding Flight Camp project is managed by Nujiang Cultural and Tourism Group Co., Ltd. (怒江文化旅游集团有限公司) and is currently in the pre-construction testing phase. According to Hua Guozhi (华国之), the head of the outdoor sports project at Nujiang Cultural and Tourism Group, the construction of the Yangpo Paragliding Flight Camp will be completed later this year. Once the project is completed, the group aims to develop the camp into a prominent winter paragliding tourism destination and demonstration base in Yunnan Province (云南省).

Upcoming Water Sports

In addition to paragliding, water sports experiences are also being developed. The planned projects include speedboats, jet skis, and flying carpet experiences along the Dragon Teng Square (龙腾广场) to Xiaoshaba section (小沙坝段). Hua Guozhi emphasized that the aim is to integrate both airborne and water-based activities to create a series of outdoor sports offerings, allowing tourists to fully experience the joy of outdoor adventures while exploring the wonders of the Nujiang Grand Canyon.

Future Outdoor Projects

Looking ahead, Nujiang Cultural and Tourism Group will focus on building the “World’s Most Beautiful Grand Canyon” and “Secret Nujiang · Outdoor Paradise” brands. The goal is to develop a diverse range of outdoor projects, including hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, and other adventure sports, to create an outdoor tourism industry cluster unique to Nujiang. This will enhance the tourism profile and influence of Nujiang, attracting more visitors to experience outdoor activities and further promote the “Secret Nujiang · Outdoor Paradise” brand.
