The Man and Nature Hall (人与自然馆) is located at 10 Expo Road (世博路), Panlong District (盘龙区), Kunming (昆明), Yunnan Province (云南省). It covers a total area of 19,148 square meters, with a building area of 4,953 square meters, a paving area of 1,800 square meters, a greening area of 6,290 square meters, and a landscaped water pool area of 6,100 square meters.
Design and Structure
As the theme pavilion of this horticultural expo, the Man and Nature Hall incorporates the natural topography of the area, utilizing two terraces with a height difference of 2.4 meters alongside water features. This design vividly showcases the harmonious integration of mountains, forests, water, and architecture.
The layout of the pavilion is based on a triangular formation derived from a cloverleaf shape, which combines to form three hexagons. The architectural structure features a stainless steel framework that is both strong and flexible, allowing for free spatial division. The roof is made of composite aluminum panels that serve a decorative purpose, with the building reaching a height of 15 meters.
Entrance and Surroundings
The main entrance features a spacious dispersal and resting square, located close to the primary pathway and the scenic water pool. A large grassy area gently extends towards the water surface, providing visitors with a sense of closeness to nature. The water area is divided into two sections, with the larger front section emphasizing natural landscapes, which are interconnected through a waterfall.
At the lowest point of the Man and Nature Hall, the water surface is planted with hydrophytic plants. The rear water area has an elevation of 1,931.40 meters above sea level, creating a stunning visual experience and emphasizing the connection between human endeavors and the natural world.
