The Kunming Nanqiang night market opened on the evening of November 21, putting together the tradition and modernity of the spring city in its downtown area.
The opening was highlighted by a photo show, an antique locomotive, a fashion show and varied snacks.
The photo show exhibited rare pictures of Kunming in days gone by, while the restored locomotive was once in service in 1910 on the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway.
The fashion show was organized by Yunnan local designer Li Zhilin, where the trendy Bai and Han ethnic fashions were staged in succession.
A diversity of local snacks and heritages were displayed via road-side stalls for market goers.
Located in downtown Kunming, the Nanqiang block forms the core of the protected area for local history and culture. Places of interest in the district include the Young Men’s Christian Association (Y.M.C.A.), the Renhexiang Mansion, the Qu Huanzhang Clinic, the Kangning Bookstore, the Fujian Guild Hall, and the Former Site of the Mutual Aid Association for Overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia.
