Benzilan Town is located in the southeastern part of Deqin County, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It sits at the foot of the Baimang Snow Mountain, on the west bank of the Jinsha River, and faces Shangri-La City and Waka Town in Deqen County, Sichuan Province, across the river. Benzilan Town is a key stop along the “Ancient Tea Horse Road,” with National Highway 214 running through it. Its geographical coordinates are 28°15’48” North latitude and 99°16’56” East longitude, with an average elevation of about 3,485 meters.

Benzilan Town is a typical example of the climatic diversity in the “Three Parallel Rivers” World Natural Heritage area, characterized by a dry and hot river valley climate with an annual rainfall of only 374 millimeters.
