History
Founding and Early Development
Yunnan Police College traces its roots to April 1950, when it was first established as the Public Security School of the Kunming Military Management Committee by the People’s Liberation Army. This institution was tasked with providing basic training to police personnel in the newly liberated region. The school underwent several name changes as it evolved over the years. In 1958, it merged with the Yunnan Provincial Political Cadre School to form a larger institution. This name remained in use until the school’s restructuring and reorganization in the early 1970s.
By 1980, the institution was renamed the Yunnan Provincial Police School, reflecting its growing focus on police education. It was upgraded again in 1997 to become Yunnan Police College, a clear sign of its elevated status as an educational institution specializing in law enforcement training.
Upgrade to University Status
In 2003, the institution underwent a major transformation, formally upgrading to a full-fledged university: Yunnan Police College. The Ministry of Education approved the school’s new status, making it a more prestigious institution with the ability to confer undergraduate degrees in fields such as criminal investigation, anti-terrorism, law enforcement management, and public security law.
