Yuxi Municipal Children Welfare Institute
Yuxi City Social Welfare Service Center continues to strengthen project organization and support, addressing service gaps to continuously enhance the rehabilitation effects and make services more precise and caring. Since 2017, the “Wings Program” has conducted six phases, serving a total of 127 disabled children in the city. Currently, 30 children from the seventh phase have been admitted to the Municipal Children’s Welfare Institute for a four-month concentrated rehabilitation and education program.
Tailoring Education for Precision Services
Yuxi City Children’s Welfare Institute adheres to tailored education based on individual needs, emphasizing precise service delivery. Before implementing the program, an assessment team comprising special education teachers, rehabilitation therapists, social workers, and other professionals assesses children and their families comprehensively. This “one-on-one” assessment focuses on each child’s daily living skills, educational status, sensory and cognitive abilities, fine motor skills, medical conditions, and addresses parental expectations. Each child’s educational and rehabilitation plans are discussed in detail during individualized assessment meetings to precisely identify their needs and create personalized education and rehabilitation plans. Throughout the program, individual files are maintained, guiding children towards developmental goals by identifying breakthrough points and unlocking their potential through planned activities in daily living skills, fine motor skills, language training, and cultural enrichment, ensuring systematic and categorized progress.
Enhancing Support for Warmer Services
Yuxi City Children’s Welfare Institute upholds the principle of “everything for the children, and everything for the children” by refining service measures to ensure every child receives optimal care. Depending on the children’s needs, areas are designated for parental accompaniment and non-accompanied care, with separate areas for boys and girls aged six and above. Specialized care is provided around the clock, with children’s names displayed on beds and wardrobes, and daily necessities prepared, including meticulously planned daily meals. Accident insurance is procured for project children, and surveillance cameras are installed in residential corridors for 24-hour monitoring and daily inspections to ensure child safety. Education and rehabilitation agreements are signed with parents to define mutual rights and obligations, encouraging active parental participation throughout the project process. A WeChat communication group is established for real-time communication, addressing queries promptly and providing feedback on children’s daily lives and educational progress, ensuring both children and parents feel the warmth of the service.
Empowering Families for Sustainable Services
Parental expectations guide service direction. Tailored education programs are designed to broaden children’s horizons and enhance their social integration skills. Educational courses themed around “school life, personal life, family life, and social life” are conducted, complemented by integrated activities like Mid-Autumn Festival outings, Double Ninth Festival hikes, cultural ceremonies, and more, fostering leisure and joyous moments for children and parents together, expanding children’s knowledge and unlocking their limitless potential to boost self-motivation and confidence in life. Upholding the belief that “parents are the best teachers,” a nurturing environment is cultivated through parent-child interaction and mutual growth, supported by parent training encompassing nurturing, education, and rehabilitation. Parents learn diverse skills in rehabilitation education and effective communication with special needs children, laying a foundation for family rehabilitation post-discharge. Following project completion, the rehabilitation team conducts targeted follow-up services, monitoring children’s family rehabilitation progress, providing ongoing guidance and skill support to parents, reinforcing the project’s effectiveness and sustaining children’s rehabilitation efforts.
Dedicated to assisting disabled children, transforming lives, and upholding beliefs, Yuxi City Children’s Welfare Institute persistently prioritizes children’s needs, continually advancing institutional quality innovation, fulfilling the mission of modern children’s welfare institutions, and providing more disabled children with “invisible wings” for a brighter future.
