How to Get to Yubeng Village from Shangri-La City

Yubeng is a tiny Tibetan village in Northern Yunnan that might just be the most stunning place in Asia. Snow covered peaks surround lush green valleys filled with birds, butterflies, flowers and prayer flags. Situated in the back of Meili Snow Mountain, it has a unique geographical environment with only 20 households and one way access to the outside world. It’s more than 200 kilometers from Shangrila to Yubeng village which can only be accessible by bus and car-rental.

How to Get to Yubeng Village from Shangrila?

By Bus

Shangrila-Deqin-Xidang Hot Spring

You can take a long-distance bus to Deqin County from Shangri-La. Deqin county is 183 kilometers away from Shangrila city. Bus is the main means of transportation for locals and tourists to get around in Shangrila. There are 5 regular buses running from Shangri-La to Deqin County every day with the fare of 68 CNY and duration of 5 hours, which departs at 8:20, 9:20, 10:30, 12:30 and 14:30. There are also minivans at the bus station that leave when they are full (the drivers are shouting “Deqin, Deqin!” to passers by). It’s 100 yuan per person. The minivans are a bit faster than the bus.

After you arrive at Deqin County, you can take a long-distance bus at 07:00 or 15:00 pm to Xidang Village or you may rent a car to get there. It is 8 kilometers from Xidang Village to Xidang Hot Springs. Yubeng Village is only accessible from Xidang Hot Springs by walking or riding a horse. It takes you five to six hours to get to Yubeng Village on foot.

Shangrila-Deqin-Feilaisi-Xidang Hot Spring

From Deqin, it is easy to get a taxi to Feilaisi (20 minutes) where you can find a guesthouse and make further arrangements to get to the start of the hike in Xidang Village the next day. Sometimes, the bus from Shangri-la to Deqin will continue to Feilaisi for an additional 5 CNY.

From Feilaisi, there are minivans leaving every morning for 150RMB (for a full minivan, which usually seats 7) to Xidang hot springs, which is the starting point of the trek to Yubeng. There is also a public bus leaving to Xidang hot springs at 8 am from the gate of viewing platform, for 20RMB per person.

Located near major tourist attractions, Shangri La Bus Station is a small while very busy station. Buses from Lijiang, Dali, Kunming and etc are all terminates here. Meanwhile, people would have to gather here to catch buses to leave Shangri La.
