Gongshan County Culture

Nujiang is located throughout southwest China's Yunnan Province. It’s the only autonomous prefecture of Lishu ethnic minority. There are Lishu, Nu, Dulong, Pumi, Bai, Yi, Naxi in Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture. In Gongshan County, Dulong and Nu people are dominant ethnic groups.  Minorities in Nujiang is the most diverse in China and the population of minorities is the largest. Traveling in Nujiang, festivals cannot be missed since we can get their traditional costume, custom, ritual and life styles. There are many ethnic featured festivals, including Kaquewa Festival(New Year Festival) of Dulong People, Kuoshi Festival(New Year Festival) of Lisu People, Zaotanghui(Bathing) Festival of Lisu People, Festival of Climbing Sword-poles of Lisu People and the Flower Festival of Nu People.

Local culture represents the diversity of ethnic culture. In Gongshan, sacrificing an ox of Dulong people are the most remarkable. They believe in different religions, such as the primitive religion, Lamaism, Catholicism and Christianity. Their beliefs can be seen in their daily life. Dulong, the smallest ethnic groups in China. They wear a cape of black and white striped linen. Dulong men like to carry a chopper, cross-bow and quiver with them. Women like to wear big earrings and rattan bracelets. Women used to tattoo their face to protect themselves from the lord in the past. Before the founding of People's Republic of China, Nu people live in the traditional styles, taking note by rope knot and slash-and-burn cultivation.
