Mouding County Festivals and Events
Mouding County is a typical multi-ethnic united county. There are more than 26 nationalities living in Mouding County. Various ethnic minorities have created colorful festivals, performances and entertainments in Mouding County, such as Torch Festival, Water-Splashing Festival, Huashan Festival, the Third Mouth Fair and some other traditional festivals with local characteristics.
1. Torch Festival (火把节)
Torch Festival of Wuding County falls on the 24th of the sixth lunar mouth. Several days before the festival, women and children will dye their their nails with balsam red to commemorate Madame Bojie, who searched for his dead husband in fie when Pi Luoge burnt Songming Tower during Nanzhao era and her fingers were covered with blood.
2. Water-Splashing Festival (泼水节)
The Water-Splashing Festival of Wuding County is a traditional festival of Dai, De'ang and Achang ethnic minorities. It is called "Len He Sang Kan" in Di llanguage meaning "the New Year's Day in June".
3. The Third Mouth Fair (三月街)
This commodity fair, dated back to Tang Dynasty, falls from the 15th to 21st of the third lunar mouth. It was developed from a temple fair of Goddess of Mercy. Apart from exchanges of goods, it is also an occasion for ethnic treatrical performances, horse racing and other events.
4. Huashan Festival (花山节)
Huashan Festival of Wuding County, also known as "Flower Mountain", "Flower Jump", is the traditional festival of Miao nationality. During the festival, people dress themselves up to the traditional floor, and young men and women danced in the middle of the hall.
