2. Geographical location
Pingbian Miao Autonomous County is located in the south of the tropic of cancer, lies in the south of Yunnan Province and the southeast of Honghe prefecture. Its geographic coordinate is between 103°24'-103°58' east longitude and 22°49'-23°23' north latitude. It is 63 kilometers long from north to south and 55 kilometers wide from east to west, covering an area of 1906 square kilometers. Pingbian county borders Wenshan in the east and Hekou county in the south, faces Maguan County accross the river, adjoins Mengzi in the north, connects Gejiu in the southwest. Yunnan-Vietnam railway and Kunhe Highway go through the county.

10. History
Pingbian County has a very long history. We will list a part of its history.
In 1950, today’s Pingbian County belonged to Mengzi Administrative Region, and in 1957, it belonged to Honghe Prefecture. In March, 1960, Pingbian county and Hekou County merged, and divided in April, 1963. On July 1st, 1963, Pingbian Miao Autonomous County was set up, and was under the administration of Honghe prefecture.
