Geographical Location

Shuifu county(水富县) is located in the far north part of Yunnan province, the junction area of Jinsha river and Hengjiang river and the southern margin of Sichuan basin. It stretches 36 kilometers from east to west and 31 kilometers from north to south. Shuifu county bordering Yanjin county on the edge of Wumeng mountain in the south, Suijiang county in the west and Yibin city across Jinsha river and Hengjiang river in the northeast. The land area is 439.8 square kilometer with the population of 104 thousand.

Introduction

Shuifu County (水富县) is a county under the jurisdiction of Zhaotong City located on the boundary of Sichuan and Yunnan provinces, and it is on the side of Jinsha River. Shuifu County located in the most northern part of Yunnan, juction of Jinnsha river, Hengjiang river, Yangze river. Located in the intersection angle of Jinsha river and Heng river, and it belongs to the sothern margin of Sichuan Basin, the starting point of Yunnan -Guizhou plateau, Wumeng mountain range in the south, next to Yanjin county, Suijiang county in the west. Shuifu county covers an area of 439.8 square kilometers, the county administer 3 towns and 1 street, and the population is 104,000. This county is the only one where have railways, highways, aviation, water and gas pipelines. It also enjoys the reputation of "the first port of Yangze river", "nothern and southern gate of Yunnan" and "the city of hot spring and romantic Shuifu". The main attractions in Shuifu county is as following : Tongluoba National Forest park, Shuifu Port, Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station, the Western Grand Canyon Hot Springs etc. The highest elevation is 1986.4 meters, and the lowest elevation is 267 meters. During the period of the Republic of China, Shuifu was not a county yet, and separately subordinated to Yanjing county, Suijiang county and Yibin city. In 1974, the State Council allowed to establish Shuifu district. Then in 1981, the governor recalled the district and established Shuifu county. Today, Shuifu has became the biggest port in Yunnan province, it is also the only county which breaks away from poverty in Zhaotong.

History

In the Qin and Han Dynasties, the territory of Shuifu was a land of Bo people. In the history, during the sixth year of Kaifeng period of Sui Dynasty belonged to Kaibian County. In the fifth year of Song Qiande's time, the Kaibian County entered the Jianwei Prefecture Bodao County, and in the fourth year of Zhenghe period, Emperor Song Huizong changed Bodao County as Yibin County. On July 1st, 1974, the Shuifu District was established. The name of the “Shui” is made from the "Shui" of Shuidong and Shuihe, and the "Fu" from Anfu. On October 1, 1981, Shuifu County was formally established.

Ethnic Groups

So far, there are 18 ethnic groups in Shuifu county, the total population of these groups reaches 4335, and Miao people is dominant, its population is 3826. Miao people inhabits together in Triangle village of Liangwan town.

Climate

Shuifu county belongs to subtropical monsoon climate. This kind of climate has the characteristics of early coming of spring, hot in summer, rainy in autumn and less in sunlight, cold wave in winter and early spring, drought frequently in spring and summer, sometimes, it happens to rainstorm and hail.

People can go to Shuifu all year around. Every season is wonderful in Shuifu, and people can enjoy different Shuifu in different season.

Shuifu county has a convenient transportation system. There is a train station in which people can take the trains depart from Kunming or trains go to Kunming. There are also long-distance buses, taxi, buses and minibus. In addition, water transportation is a very important part of Shuifu Tansportation.

Shuifu county(水富县) lies on the border of Yunnan and Sichuan province, and for its’ special location, it has been the northern gate of Yunnan province since the ancient time. So Shuifu has developed its’ unique eating patterns which mixed the the characteristics of Yunnan food and Sichuan food. The main feature of Shuifu food is spicy.
