Festivals of Xishan District：

Dragon Boat Festival

The Dragon Boat Festival， also called the Duanwu Festival， is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month according to the Chinese calendar. This festival is to commemorate the death of QU Yuan， an upright and honest poet and statesman who is said to have committed suicide by drowning himself in a river.

Torch Festival

It is a grandest event of Yi ethnic minority, local Yi people will celebrate it on the 24th day of lunar June in Shilin Country. They gather and collected torch together into an burning tower, then sing and dance around the torch tower.

Guanyinshan Temple Fair

Guanyinshan Temple Fair is an annual gathering of incense, fairs and songs. It is a traditional custom with a long history. It was approved by the Kunming Municipal people's Government in 2005 and listed as the first list of national folk culture protection in Kunming. As a traditional national festival with a long history in Xishan District, it is not only a propaganda platform for further carrying forward and inheriting national culture, fully demonstrating the local unique folk customs and natural scenery, but also strengthening foreign exchanges and enriching the connotation of folk customs activities in Guanyin Mountain. The important bridge to promote the influence of cultural brand in Xishan area.
