Taliu people(他留人), claiming themselves to be “Talu”(他鲁) or “Talusu”(他鲁苏), has their own language but does not have common characters, they only have a few pictograms which specially used by “Duoxi”(多系) (priests of Taliu) . Chinese and Chinese characters are commonly used by them. The Taliu people(他留人) lives in Liude(六德) Township, Yongsheng (永胜)County and is a memberbranch of the Yi nationality(彝族). The Taliu people(他留人) has original oral history, different puberty rites and romantic marriage mode in the “Youth Shed”(青春鹏). In addition, the local residence and Taliu Baba are the epitome of their fire pond and food culture.
The Taliu people(他留人) mainly concentrates in the area of Taliu Mountain(他留山)Mountain,which is located in the northwest of the Lipan line of Sichuan-Myanmar, Liude Township, east longitude 101°, north latitude 26°33’, 45 kilometers away from Yongsheng County, and the straight distance is 18.9 kilometers. Taliu Mountain(他留山)located on the upper reaches of the Taliu River(他留河). The mountains and valleys are interlaced. There are river valleys, half-mountains and mountainous areas. There are three village committees:Shuanghe(双河), Yunshan(云山) and Yushui(玉水). Known to history as Taliu Valley(他留河域)whose total area is 150 square kilometers and altitude is 1,500 to 2160 meters. Taliu Valley(他留河域) has a temperate continental climate to a cold temperate climate, with overlapped peaks, abundant forest grassland resources and great ecological environment. The distribution between Taliu people(他留人) and the Han(汉族), Yi(彝族) and Xiaoliangshan Dais(小凉山傣族) is stepped. The Taliu people(他留人) is composed of nine surnames: “Wang, Lan, Chen, Hai, Luo, Xiong, Duan, Qiu, Yang” among which “Wang, Lan, Chen, Hai” are the four major surnames, accounting for more than 90% of the total population.
