Baishacun Mosque in Weishan County, Dali

Baisha Village Mosque (白沙村清真寺) is located in Baisha Village (白沙村), Yongjian Township (永建乡), Weishan County (巍山县), Yunnan Province (云南省). The exact date of its founding is unknown. Over the years, the mosque has undergone several reconstructions, with the most recent being in 1993. The current mosque complex is still under construction and improvement. It occupies approximately 4 mu (亩), with a total built area of 1,900 square meters. The main prayer hall is a two-story structure covering 900 square meters, and the minaret is a four-cornered spire structure covering 400 square meters.

Historical Development

The founding date of Baisha Village Mosque is unknown. It was renovated in 1914, again in 1944, expanded in 1987, and a new minaret was constructed in 1993.

Scale and Structure

The mosque is currently undergoing construction and improvement. It occupies about 4 mu (亩), with a total building area of 1,900 square meters. The main prayer hall consists of two levels, totaling 900 square meters. The minaret features a four-cornered spire and has a floor area of 400 square meters, with classrooms and dormitories on the upper levels. Additionally, there are 11 wooden residential rooms serving as living quarters for the ahongs (阿訇).

Communication and Cooperation

The mosque serves 130 Hui (回族) Muslim households, with a population of more than 700 people. All residents follow the Gedimu (格迪目) tradition. The village has 21 ahongs (阿訇) and 2 hajis (哈吉). During the late Qing Dynasty, the famous Islamic scholar Ma Chaopin (马超品) emerged from this village. The mosque also has one Arabic school, with more than 30 manlas (满拉).
