Banggu Township (蚌谷乡) is located in the northwestern part of Xichou County (西畴县), Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture (文山壮族苗族自治州), Yunnan Province (云南省). It borders Fadou Township (法斗乡) to the east, Xingjie Town (兴街镇) to the south, Lianhuatang Township (莲花塘乡) to the west, and Baga Township (八嘎乡) in Yanshan County (砚山县) to the north. The township government is located in Banggu Village (蚌谷村), approximately 15 kilometers from the county seat, covering a total area of about 132.8 square kilometers.

Banggu Township (蚌谷乡) has a long history, with its name derived from the location of the township government in Banggu Village (蚌谷村). In 1920, it was established as Banggu Jia (蚌谷甲) during the 9th year of the Republic of China. It was renamed Banggu Commune (蚌谷公社) in 1958, Banggu District (蚌谷区) in 1983, and officially became Banggu Township (蚌谷乡) in 1987. It is known as the birthplace of the “Spirit of Xichou” (西畴精神), where residents overcame severe rocky desertification through perseverance and hard work, achieving remarkable development.
