China Tea Expo

The China International Tea Expo中国国际茶业博览会 is a major tea industry event held at the Hangzhou International Expo Center in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Jointly organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province, the expo plays a crucial role in promoting the high-quality development of China’s tea industry, enhancing international tea culture cooperation, and supporting the continuous income growth of tea farmers.

The first China International Tea Expo took place from May 18 to 21, 2017, with a congratulatory letter from Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and President of the People’s Republic of China. As of 2024, the China International Tea Expo has been held six times. The sixth edition of the expo will be held from May 17 to 21, 2024, at the Hangzhou International Expo Center.

Event History

  • 2021: On May 21, the fourth China International Tea Expo was held in Hangzhou to mark the second International Tea Day, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province.
  • 2017: The inaugural China International Tea Expo was held from May 18 to 21 at the Hangzhou International Expo Center. Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter, expressing his congratulations on the event.
  • 2018: The second China International Tea Expo was held from May 18 to 22 at the Hangzhou International Expo Center.
  • 2019: The third China International Tea Expo took place from May 14 to 19 at the Hangzhou International Expo Center.
  • 2021: The fourth China International Tea Expo was held from May 21 to 25 at the Hangzhou International Expo Center.
  • 2023: The fifth China International Tea Expo took place from May 20 to 24 at the Hangzhou International Expo Center.

    • Scale: The expo featured achievements, trade negotiations, and cooperation. It hosted 47 international exhibitors, representatives from 20 major tea-producing provinces in China, and over 1,700 domestic and international professional buyers. Activities included international tea and coffee dialogues, and contemporary tea culture development forums.
    • Results: Preliminary statistics show on-site transactions close to 67.8 million RMB, with tea transactions amounting to 49.2 million RMB and a volume of 25.5 tons; intended transaction value reached 3.537 billion RMB, with intended tea transactions amounting to 3.428 billion RMB.

    • Theme: Tea and the World, Sharing Development
    • Dates: May 18-22, 2018
    • Location: Hangzhou International Expo Center
    • Scale: The expo covered 70,000 square meters with 2,654 standard booths, featuring 1,540 companies from over 30 countries and regions, with nearly 4,000 invited professional buyers.
    • Results: The event attracted 151,000 visitors and achieved 99.43 tons of on-site tea transactions with a value of 10.3 million RMB.
  3. Third Expo
    • Name: Third China International Tea Expo
    • Theme: Tea and the World, Sharing Development
    • Dates: May 14-19, 2019
    • Location: Hangzhou International Expo Center
    • Scale: The expo featured 1,563 exhibitors from 25 provinces in China and 30 countries and regions abroad. It attracted 3,425 buyers from 46 countries and regions. The event included international tea and coffee dialogues, the China Tea Industry International Summit Forum, and various international activities.
    • Results: The expo saw 185,200 visitors, with 10,787 professional buyers negotiating deals. On-site tea transactions amounted to 222.9 tons with a value of 186.2 million RMB, while intended transaction volume reached 5,032 tons with an intended transaction value of 5.4 billion RMB. The largest single order was 310 million RMB.

    • Location: Hangzhou International Expo Center
    • Scale: The expo featured over 4,000 buyers and 1,500 tea-related enterprises. Notable participants included 1,013 tea companies, 143 tea utensil companies, 55 tea packaging machinery companies, and nearly 300 other related enterprises.
    • Results: The expo achieved 254.3 tons of on-site tea transactions, a 14% increase from the previous year, with a transaction value of 22.38 million RMB, a 20% increase. Orders totaled 13,041, with intended tea transaction volume reaching 6,032.5 tons and intended transaction value at 6.39 billion RMB. The largest single order was 1.2 billion RMB.

    • Dates: May 20-24, 2023
    • Location: Hangzhou International Expo Center
    • Scale: The expo covered 50,000 square meters, with nearly 900 domestic and international tea companies showcasing over 10,000 products. It featured more than 80 brand promotion events.
    • Results: The expo experienced robust online and offline sales. As of May 23, on-site tea transactions totaled 116.13 tons with a value of 14.4 million RMB. Orders reached 9,462, with an intended transaction volume of 7,719 tons and an intended transaction value of 3.166 billion RMB.
  6. Sixth Expo
    • Name: Sixth China International Tea Expo
    • Theme: Tea and the World, Sharing Development
    • Dates: May 17-21, 2024
    • Location: Hangzhou International Expo Center
    • Scale: The expo will feature a 60,000 square meter exhibition area with 2,700 international standard booths. The layout includes six main zones: Conference Area, Public Brand Area, Corporate Brand Area, Overseas Area, Comprehensive Area, and Promotion Area. The event will showcase products across six major tea categories and other related products.
    • Key Activities: The expo will host key activities such as the Future Tea Development Trends Forum and the New Era of Integration Innovation Forum.
