Dashanbao Town of Zhaoyang District in Zhaotong
Dashanbao Town (大山包镇), located in the Zhaoyang District (昭阳区) of Zhaotong City (昭通市), Yunnan Province, is situated in the western part of the district. It borders Xinjie, Longshu, Shuimo, and Suoshan townships of Ludian County (鲁甸县) to the east and south, Tianba and Yanshan townships to the west, and Dazhaizi township to the north. The town covers an area of 192 square kilometers and has a registered population of 20,234 people as of 2019.

In 1950, it was part of the Seventh District of Zhaotong County.

In 1958, the Dashanbao Commune was established after being separated from Yanshan.

4. Geography and Environment
Location and Boundaries
Dashanbao Town is located in the western part of Zhaoyang District, Yunnan Province. To the east and south, it borders several townships in Ludian County, while to the west, it borders Tianba Township and Yanshan Township, and to the north, it is connected to Dazhaizi Township. [3] The town covers an area of 192 square kilometers.
Terrain and Landforms
Dashanbao Town is situated in the eastern section of the Wulian Mountain (五莲峰) in northeastern Yunnan. The area has a high-altitude mountainous terrain with rolling hills, with the highest point at Dushi Bao (独石包) in Hexing Village (合兴村), reaching an elevation of 3,364 meters, and the lowest point at the border with Ludian County near the Jingou Intersection (警沟交叉) at 2,210 meters.
Climate
Dashanbao Town experiences a subtropical monsoon climate, with an average annual temperature ranging between 5.7°C and 6.2°C. The area enjoys 2,200 to 2,300 hours of sunshine per year, with a frost-free period of 80 to 125 days. Annual precipitation is between 1,100mm and 1,340mm.
Hydrology
The Yangwo River (羊窝河) is the primary river that flows through Dashanbao Town from south to north.

As of the end of 2011, Dashanbao Town had a population of 17,481 people, with 3,486 urban residents, making up 20% of the total population, and 7,035 transient migrants. Of the total population, 9,179 were male (52.5%), and 8,302 were female (47.5%). In 2011, the birth rate was 4.8‰, the death rate was 1.26‰, and the natural population growth rate was 3.54‰.
As of the end of 2019, the registered population in Dashanbao Town had increased to 20,234 people.

In 2016, Dashanbao Town’s total economic income was 68.87 million yuan, with 3,752 yuan in per capita net income for farmers. The agricultural revenue amounted to 15.12 million yuan, and the livestock revenue reached 36.68 million yuan, showing year-on-year growth. Transportation income was 386,600 yuan, while tourism revenue reached 1.05 million yuan. The town had 4,827 migrant workers, with a total income of 18.13 million yuan from labor-related services.

In 2011, the town grew 7,600 acres of oats, 21,000 acres of potatoes, 5,600 acres of bitter melons, and 700 acres of corn, with a total yield of 8,697.97 tons. The primary economic crop is vegetables, with 3,180 acres dedicated to vegetable farming. Livestock farming primarily involves raising pigs, sheep, cattle, and poultry. In 2011, the town produced 14,822 pigs, 705 cattle, 9,880 sheep, and 11,786 poultry, with stocks maintained at the end of the year.
In 2016, Dashanbao Town had a total cultivated area of 2,605 hectares, with 2,869 hectares of crops, including 2,732 hectares of grain, yielding 9,607 tons, an increase of 10.24% over the previous year.

In 2011, Dashanbao Town was traversed by the Zhaodai Highway (昭大公路), running from east to west. There were also several rural roads connecting the villages, including roads from Dayangwo to Laolin and from Dayangwo to Chelu. The town had daily bus services for transportation.

Origin of the Name
Dashanbao Town is named after Dashanbao (大山包), which is a high-altitude area. The name “Dashan” (大山) refers to its significant height, as the mountain dominates the surrounding peaks.
