Nujiang Flavor Food

Pipa Pork (琵琶肉)

A favorite food of the Pumi people is 'pipa meat' - salted pork wrapped in pork skin in the shape of a pipa (lute). A method of using traditional Tibetan bacon produced meat. It is shaped like a lute, so called "pipa  meat". Pipa meat can be stored for a long time. It can be boiled and stewed for dishes.

The Cured Ham Of  Bai People(白族腌火腿)

Hams are prepared in several different ways. They can be aged, cured, smoked or cooked. The ham you get at the store is generally wet or brine cured. This process involves injecting the ham with a combination of salt, sugar, sodium nitrite, sodium nitrate, sodium erythorbate, sodium phosphate, potassium chloride, water and/or flavorings. The ham is then cooked to an internal temperature of 150 degrees F. The combination of the chemical brine and the cooking will kill off bacteria and make a ham.

Laowo Ham (老窝火腿)

Laowo ham, produced in Laowo town, represents the top grade of ham. It is made of pork of pigs fed with corn, green vegetables and wild vegetables. The freshly slaughtered pig leg is squeezed with a millstone, to squeeze out the blood from the meat, then pepper, chili powder, peanut powder and wine are sprinkled on the meat, and finally the meat is soaked for three to five days. The ham is put in a cool place, the longer it is stored, the more delicious it tastes.

Huotang Pork (火塘猪)

Huotang pork is the meat of Huotang pigs. The selection and feeding of Huotang pigs are very particular. The selected pigs are fed separately from the other young pigs. After feeding for 3 months, the young pig will grow to 20 to 30 kg.

Musk Deer and Musk (麝香鹿和麝香)

Musk deer is a kind of rare wild animal in Nujiang prefecture. The musk has fore limbs, long hindquarters, small hoof and big ears. Both male and female musk have no horn. The body of the musk is brown, while the color on the back is darker. Some has dust color with some unobvious dust yellow stripes and spots. The secretion of the male musk's musk gland can be dried up to make into a kind of rare precious medicinal materials, Musk, which is also a kind of precious spice. The output of musk in Yunnan Province is number four in China, and Nujiang’s output is the greatest in Yunnan Province.

Rhizoma Coptidis(云黄连)

Rhizoma Coptidis is the dried rhizome of Coptis chinensis, commonly known as "Yun-lian". The drug is collected in autumn, removed from rootlet and soil, and dried for use. It is used for relief of heat toxicity, indigestion, diabetes, inflammation of intestine,  diarrhea caused by bacterial infection, high fever, restlessness and insomnia, spitting blood, nose bleeding due to heat in blood, red eyes and excess stomach acid, tooth ache, boils.

Fritillaria (贝母)

Fritillaria is a perennial herb, suitable for growing in snowy mountain meadows with altitude of above 3,500 meters. The plant is short, smooth and pearl-shaped. According to its shape, the local people named it "Pearl Shell of Gaoligong Mountain" and "Snow Pearl of Biluo Mountain".

Nujiang Handicrafts

Crossbow 弓弩

It is one of the existing primitive hunting tools, which is made of hard wood. The bowstring is made of ox tendon. Together with the bamboo arrow and arrow bag, this kind of crossbow is very powerful. Within five meters, it can strike a wooden door.

Dulong Carpet 独龙毯

Dulong carpet is a handicraft made by Dulong women. The raw materials are wild hemp and home-planted hemp. People twist the hemp into strings and dye them with liquid of different colors, which are made of various plants. Dulong carpet is durable and rain-proof, which can also be used as mat or quilt. To make an elegant Dulong carpet needs more than ten processes including peeling hemp, spinning, design, making woofs etc., and they need various tools to finish these processes. Nowadays, it is a kind of traditional costume for Dulong people to wear a piece of elegant Dulong carpet. The carpet may be very expensive.

Unique Clothes of  Lisu People 傈僳族服饰

The Lisu people wear the clothes woven by themselves with no big difference in designs and ornaments. The only big difference is the color and on that basis the Lisu people are divided into White Lisu people, Black Lisu people and Variegated Lisu people. The Variegated Lisu's clothes are bright and colorful while the Black Lisu people' clothes look elegant and graceful.

The Crafts of Bai People 白族工艺品

The Bai people are masters of artistic creativity including architecture, sculpture, painting, music, and other craft techniques such as lacquer work. You can buy some handicrafts of Bai people such as silver ornaments, silverware and wood carvings.
