Chuxiong is located in the middle of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, neighbors Kunming in the east, Dali in the west, Pu’er in the south and Panzhihua in the north. As of 2013, Chuxiong has an area of 4433 square kilometers and has jurisdiction over 12 towns and 3 townships, with a household registration population of 516555.
