Foshan Town of Deqin County, Diqing

Foshan Township (佛山乡)is located in the northwest of Deqin County, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It is bordered by Yangla Township to the east, Shengping Town and Yunling Township to the south, and is adjacent to the Meili Snow Mountain. To the west and north, it shares borders with the Tibet Autonomous Region. The township covers an area of 914 square kilometers and has an average altitude of 3,889 meters.

History

Foshan Township historically belonged to the jurisdiction of Sang’s “Deben” (also known as “Bazong”). During the Republic of China period, it was referred to as Foshan Township or the First District. In 1950, it was established as a district. In 1952, the villages were reorganized into three townships: Jiangpo, Nagu, and Bamei. In 1958, the district was upgraded to a commune. In 1978, the district seat was moved to La Xu Village. In 1984, the district and township system was reformed, and it was renamed Foshan District. In 1987, the district was abolished, and Foshan Township was established.

Foshan Township is a multi-ethnic settlement, predominantly inhabited by Tibetans, with a minority of Naxi, Han, and other ethnic groups. The township is known for its rich Tibetan culture, including traditional costumes, religious ceremonies, and folk dances like Guozhuang.
