迪庆藏族自治州民族博物馆位于香格里拉三号路，建于1996年，馆内收藏有维西傈僳族自治县境内的戈登新石器文化出土文物，见证了在六七千年前，迪庆就有人类生息、繁衍。从德钦县永芝、纳古、石底等地出土的石棺墓及随葬品文物看，约在2300多年前，吐蕃先民已在这里创造了丰富多彩的土著文化。
迪庆藏族自治州民族博物馆新馆位于独克宗古城日月广场南侧，通过“自然的香格里拉”、“历史的香格里拉”、 “文化的香格里拉”、“今日的香格里拉”四个陈列展厅，全面展示具有云南藏区特色的“香格里拉”自然、历史、文化以及五十年来自治州的成就。同时起建的还有独克宗古城日月广场北侧的迪庆州红军长征博物馆。
