Tacheng Town of Weixi County, Diqing

Ta Cheng Town is located in the northeastern part of Weixi Lisu Autonomous County, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It lies in the heart of the “Three Parallel Rivers” World Natural Heritage Site. The town is bordered by Shangri-La City’s Wu Jing Township and Shang Jiang Township across the Jinsha River to the east, adjacent to Yulong County’s Ta Cheng Township to the southeast, connected to Yongchun Township to the south, and bordered by Kangpu Township, Bai Jixian Township, and Pantian Ge Township to the west and southwest. It is also connected to Deqin County’s Tuoding Township and Xia Ruoyang to the north. The administrative area of Ta Cheng Town covers 766.73 square kilometers.

History

The history of Ta Cheng Town dates back to the Yuan Dynasty. In 1277, during the reign of Kublai Khan, Linxi County was established, marking the beginning of governance in Weixi, with the administrative center located in what is now Ta Cheng Town. The town has been an important administrative center in the region ever since.

Ta Cheng Town is a multi-ethnic settlement, home to a variety of ethnic groups including Tibetan, Naxi, Lisu, Bai, Yi, Pumi, Hui, and Han.
